Great art takes time. Creative research is a process worth pursuing. London resident Floss Jordan knows it very well, having spent the past couple of years gearing up for a reboot of her project. After debuting in 2020 with Kings & Queens, the talented singer, songwriter, producer and Dj now returns with what feels like the beginning of a new bright chapter. ‘Salt’ is Floss Jordan’s latest effort, a slice of bubbly electro-pop and relatable, metaphorical lyricism.
Introduced by punchy beats and bouncy synthesisers, the track soon makes space for Jordan’s evocative, sultry vocals, effectively creating a magnetising concoction of sonic gold. Iconic are the scattered vocal samples in the first bars: a sign that the British creative is not just following trends. She’s driving them, running towards an authentic identity that may very well be here already.
Describing the process behind writing the track, she explains: “The song is about the juxtaposition of saltwater being cleansing, but also corrosive. That feeling when you have been swimming in saltwater, and you cannot get the salt off your skin. A metaphor for a relationship, salt brings a feeling of wellness, cleansing and detoxification.”
