Have you ever felt like you might be too much to handle? Did anyone ever tell you that your choices are questionable, and that perhaps you should pipe down and follow the beaten path? If so, NYC creative Bri Carter might have something you could use. ‘too much to handle’ is her latest effort, a fierce and honest anthem directed towards whoever tries to ‘dim your flame’. Framed into gritty and distorted modern hip-hop, Carter develops a real banger, exhibiting poignancy and nostalgia treated with a furious sentiment.
Originally debuting in 2020, the American talent has slowly been sculpting an eclectic artistic style that is certainly not going unnoticed. Blending emotional guitar parts and hip-hop-derived beats, she’s able to deliver music to the new generations, perhaps a modern version of what ‘emo’ used to stand for two decades ago.
Introduced by a haunting keys arpeggio, ‘too much to handle’ serves up Carter’s intense and heartfelt vocals from the get-go, interestingly placing themselves at the crossroads between rap and singing, somehow blending the two in a friendly fashion. Once the chorus hits, we get a slice of what the project is all about: distorted beats and bass provide a bouncy yet massive sonic framework, the perfect companion for Bri’s precise and clear timbre.
An interesting record from Bri Carter, who’s clearly on to something real. Looking forward to hearing more!
