The keen reader will remember London-based songstress Jewelia from ‘No Lover’, an uplifting pop gem we wrote about last summer. In it, the talented artist was marking a definite shift from her roots, leaving intimate and melancholic folk to embrace a brighter and groovier pop aesthetic. It clearly worked well, with the track amassing a whopping 70k streams to date, on Spotify alone.
Following up on that unexpected success, Jewelia now returns with ‘Second Best’, another poppy number, although mellower than its predecessor. Boasting a glorious and catchy chorus, the track confirms the magnificent songwriting prowess carried by the London resident, matched only by a contemporary production flair that clearly showcases her proficiency in sound design. Lyrically, the track depicts the struggle of always striving for the best, in a society where everything is pushed to is extreme.
