You might have noted the current pop-punk resurgence the music landscape is experiencing. We are pleased with it, to be fair: growing up in the early 2000s, it all reminds us of our youth, a time when the internet was just starting out, and MSN Messenger was our best ally. Of course, today’s pop-punk heroes are not necessarily 30 years old. Frequently, it’s Gen Z talents that champion pop-punk the most. This is interesting on so many levels, how generation connects to each other through throwback culture. Also, current pop-punk is often infused with hip-hop elements, to symbolize its progression from two decades ago.
Enough chit-chat: we came across a brilliant artist, championing a punk aesthetic akin to Blink 182 and Machine Gun Kelly. Meet Joshua Lloyd! Currently based in London, the talented newcomer stays true to his inspirations, delivering an unapologetically authentic pp style that really hit all the right marks.
Lloyd’s latest effort takes the shape of ‘Heartless’, a slightly more poignant offering from the usual, featuring mellower tones and trap beats, before jumping into a full-on rock ballad, shedding light on the British artist’s emotional character. An absolute delight to listen to, the track focuses on relationship issues, highlighting the heartless nature of the author’s partner.
If you – like us – strongly relate to Joshua Lloyd’s music, we strongly recommend you listen to it. Who knows, we might meet at one of his gigs one day.
