When we first discovered The Lonely Hunter, they reminded us of Death Cab for Cutie, among others. While we are confident they’d define themselves as a slightly heavier outfit, their vocals and lyricism contain the same poignancy and romantic energy one finds in Ben Gibbard’s creative action. Hailing from Texas, The Lonely Hunter have recently unveiled their latest effort, ‘So Long As You Return’.
Introduced by elegant and polite drums and mellotron-esque textures, the single then finds its true face during the chorus, exhibiting a great deal of guitar-powered textures and stacked riffs, making for a listening experience that’s vibrant and evocative. The American band does a good job of balancing clear, simple melodies with complex arrangements, a formula that helps communicate the intense, romantic and personal imagery behind the song.
