Bubbly, exciting, flashy: if we were to compile a list of adjectives to describe Electric High’s new thrilling record, that’s the ones we’d use. Now, you might agree or not. What we can definitely agree on, is the sheer quality of the Norwegian group, showcasing impressive musicianship and an eye-popping, charismatic rock attitude. They have had a busy couple years, releasing a plethora of energetic singles, all carrying their signature double lead vocals, a feature that greatly characterizes the talented outfit: their tracks ooze with pop lyricism, carefully laid upon a bed of guitar shredding and punchy drums.
Following up from ‘Walls Fall Down’, EP released earlier this year, Electric High now return with ‘Cyclone’, an exuberant and intoxicating high-octane banger. Fast tempo and a glorious outlook, that’s the recipe. The song tales a fierce and powerful stance on being the ‘ringmaster’ – the one who decided the fate of others. That’s a pretty good position to be in, serving with a side of arrogance and vanity. This acute lyrical concept is a perfect match for the Bergen residents, who are able to translate it into exhilarating musical goodness.
‘Cyclone’ moves fast: drums are hitting hard, with steady rhythms and large fills. Guitars are often engaged in flashy playing, which in the context of the song works very well. Vocals are authentically 70s: seductive and charming, they do have confidence. Overall, an absolute rock tune from Electric High, who keep the classic rock flame alive once again.
