Skar de Line Takes a Darker Approach in ‘Vignette’

We have come to know Skar de Line as an eclectic, meaningful project, often steeped in introspection and evocative lyricism. Last time we wrote about the Swedish troubadour was over a year ago, when we celebrated ‘The One’ as “anthemic, legendary and cathartic”. We stand behind our words: those are all qualities that deeply inform Skar De Line’s attentive artistry. Yet, make no mistake, he’s not afraid to take alternative paths.

‘Vignette’ is the perfect example of that. Following up from the previous EP ‘Reset’, the London-based creative’s latest single embraces a different approach, finding refuge in piano-powered poignancy and intimate, personal lyricism. Unveiling a new chapter to the Skar de Line saga, ‘Vignette’ sees the rising voyager boldly adventuring in search of answers, admiring life’s unpredictability and the difficulties of making big, important decisions.

The accompanying music video – conceived by Skar de Line himself – mirrors such a scenario perfectly, using the potent metaphors of the blank canvas, just waiting to be filled with brand new colours and shapes. As the artist explains: “It explores the power we have with an empty slate in front of us, but also the crippling feeling of not knowing what to fill that empty canopy with. Vignette asks what inside of us is permanent and not just temporary.”
