Released via the furnace of talents which is Shy Bairn Records, ‘Let Beautiful In: Rewoven’ is a crepuscular, cathartic EP, a slice of stunning leftfield electronica and alt-folk prowess. Seeking to celebrate The Woven Project’s evocative and meaningful material (covered by us here), the new record gives way to a series of remixes, atmospheric and gloomy productions with a high density of boundary-pushing sound design and decadent sampling.
It’s the perfect match for its original source. Hailing from England, The Woven Project maintain creative authenticity over the project, yet give artistic freedom to any remixer involved. The Hartlepool-based duo’s nuanced intimacy and sensibility are successfully retained here, with the recent EP ‘Let Beautiful In’ getting supercharged in a futuristic fashion, despite an overwhelming sense of tradition wrapped around the project’s evocative, luscious vocals.
References are far and wide, with an eclectic mix of downtempo, trip-hop and chillout alongside more daring, free-form pieces. It’s all fair game: the important thing here is self-expression, which is certainly achieved. Granted: ‘Let Beautiful In: Rewoven’ might not be for everyone. It needs to be savoured slowly, perhaps at nighttime, and it includes a great deal of escapism and introspection. The listening experience is at times healing and shooting, at other times vibrant and uplifting. Just enjoy it.
