We have previously written extensively about American singer-songwriter Josh Jensen. In fact, we went as far as declaring ‘Wanderlust Highway’ “absolute bliss”, a statement we still stand behind. There’s always been a sense of tradition and intimacy in Jensen’s music, a heartwarming character that’s incredibly relatable and welcoming. The project’s latest album is the perfect example of that; ‘This Is Where We Landed’ showcases Jensen’s unwavering commitment to lyrical honesty and authenticity.
The record takes inspiration from everyday life. Love, hope, grief, loss: everything plays a role in making ‘This Is Where We Landed’ an expansive offering, a slice of simplicity and fierceness in the face of adversity. In particular, Josh is seen focusing on his wife’s battle with breast cancer, a poignant experience that has naturally influenced the talented musician’s output. Over eleven pieces, ‘This Is Where We Landed’ borders blues, acoustic pop and alt-country, placing heightened attention on the songwriting, rather than on the sonic formula.
Jensen’s dynamic and evocative vocals are perfectly at home in such vibrant settings, wrapping listeners into aural catharsis and prophetic messages. Speaking more in-depth about the record, he explains: “It was written and recorded the year after Jensen’s wife was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. After such an intense and trying experience, Jensen took to music to process his emotions.”
