Reading through the reasoning behind AUNCE’s latest effort ‘Silver Sun’, we have come to an important realization. Her boundary-pushing character is not necessarily tied to any production or songwriting formula. Instead, it stems directly from the unique, vibrant way the London-based songstress experiences our reality, distilling little nuggets of beauty, hope and love in aural form. This is particularly relevant when comparing the project’s latest single to its predecessor, ‘Evergreen’.
The sonic references have shifted significantly, with ethereal and crepuscular electronica replaced by a more intimate, piano-based arrangement. Truly poignant and evocative, ‘Silver Sun’ embraces a slower ballad tempo, yet still finds its way back to AUNCE’s signature experimental tones, here manifesting through otherwordly textures and angelic soundscapes. Even with such differences, the single still carries an overwhelming lyrical force, with the rising voyager being inspired by the powerful atmosphere of a place called Ruapuke, a beach close to the coastal town of Raglan on the West Coast of the North Island of Aotearoa, NZ.
A vibrant experience, that brief fragment of wonder allowed AUNCE to reach enhanced lyrical depth, embracing love and the power of emotional connections. Again: she is decoding the world around her through the art language, with enhanced sensibility. For that, we are thankful, as we can then connect with her experiences, even for a mere few seconds.
Speaking further about ‘Silver Sun’, AUNCE explains: “I don’t usually write love songs, but at the time of writing ‘Silver Sun’ I was moving through a shift in understanding love – as something that is and will always be part of us, or is us. Sometimes, it gets lost and buried beneath the noise and conditioning of life. Things, people, places come into our life and awareness that remind us of this love.”
