We have written quite extensively about Cedric D in the past, yet it’s surely been a while, with the American producer and DJ missing from our pages since February 2024. We are now happy to welcome him back to the fold thanks to his latest effort, a stunning slice of deep house and laidback grooves, ‘Breathe’. Steeped in retro dance references, the piece embarks on house and techno influences, with the addition of spacious, ethereal female vocal samples serving a heightened ethereal character.
Boasting a certain chillout energy, ‘Breathe’ is quite versatile, functioning both as a late-night relaxer and rooftop-at-sunset banger. Whichever way you look at it, the track gifts a wonderfully limitless listening experience, wrapping dancers and club-goers in a blissful, luscious sonic livery, the perfect match for Cedric D’s three-dimensional aura. Citing Odesza and Bonobo as some of his influences, it’s clear how he’s able to mix those with a more pungent dance quality.
Hailing from the Bay Area (San Jose), Cedric D usually works from his home studio. Delving into the inspiration behind ‘Breathe’, he explains: “I try to produce music that inspires and uplifts people. While I love house and EDM music, I sometimes bounce between genres depending on the direction I want to take the song.”
