Josie Lockhart Returns with Monumental Album ‘What Golden Hues’

Judging by his current musical output, the keen listener would probably be doubtful about Lockhart‘s past militance in the Texan synth-pop group Sphynx. Now navigating a rather eclectic brand of Americana, country, and veiled pop elements, the Austin-based musician and composer seems to have found a new lease of life, embracing songwriting and music-making with a more authentic, honest approach.

Forgetting about commercial endeavours and the search for ‘success’, Josie tries to connect with his deepest, truest artistry with a batch of material written over the winter of 2022 at his family’s home in Durango, Colorado. ‘What Golden Hues’ is the resulting body of work, a cathartic and vibrant album steeped in wholesome, fuzzy guitars and blissful synth atmospheres. The occasional steel guitar helps give the record a real Americana flair.

Already celebrated by several international outlets thanks to his 2021 release ‘Santa Rosa’, Josie Lockhart – known by day as Aaron Miller – the Texan creative is bound to gain further recognition, with ‘What Golden Hues’ fully playing to his strengths. As he explains: “I wanted to draw from the well of music I grew up listening to, Lucinda Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Townes Van Zandt”.
