Andrew Schneider has been rather busy in the past few months. We appreciate his eclectic flair and relatable pop outlook, often oscillating between tradition and futurism, and we’d also like to praise Schneider’s pure elegance. His ability to pen charming, gentle and wholesome pieces is on another level, wrapping listeners in nostalgic power-pop character and soft rock fierceness.
Following up on ‘Femme Fatale’, the Chicago-based creative now returns with his latest effort ‘Pleasant Thoughts’, a classic pop-rock anthem with an ingenious new wave component. While Schneider’s vocals are most effective on the single’s evocative shorelines, the final guitar solo is also a definite standout, giving the composition a certain timeless aura. Such timeless features are perfectly on-brand when considering that the song was originally written in 2007, and then refined through the years in Andrew’s live shows.
We could perhaps consider ‘Pleasant Thoughts’ as a hidden secret, a nugget of lyrical joy just wanting to be shared with the wider world. Delving into his melancholic lyricism, Schneider explains: “The song examines how loss and jealousy breed paralysis and bitterness – those who cannot accept their pain will never be able to move on from it”.
