We don’t always cover hip-hop, but when we do it’s because the record in question is relatable and appealing to a wider audience. That’s exactly the case of ‘Drake and Drive’. Penned by rising British hip-hop voyager Trady, the track successfully blends striking drill flow with a rather unusual evocative character, making for a piece that’s meaningful and poignant, yet also fierce and bold.
That’s actually a great way to describe Trady’s intricate artistry; causing a stir in his Northeast home territories, the talented rapper juggles between a conventional day job and an honest, hungry rap persona. Such a contrast makes the project way more authentic, keeping it at a distance from some of hip-hop’s rather dated stereotypes. If there’s a project we can get behind is Trady’s – he’s keeping it real, some would say.
Produced by longtime collaborator Lunko, ‘Drake and Drive’ was originally meant to be a drill anthem, but then found a smoother, more melodic way forward. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Trady explains: “It’s more than just a song – it represents my journey, my vision, and the hunger coming out of the North East. And this is just the beginning.”
