Keith Reds Share Hazy, Dreamy EP ‘Sun Underground’

There’s a great deal of hazy, hypnotising sonic energy in ‘Sun Underground’. A double single, – or an EP, depending on where you stand on the matter – the record finds its strengths in lo-fi tones and gentle guitar strumming, all wrapped in nuanced drum grooves, balanced between jazzy and indie character. Overall, we particularly resonate with ‘Cave’, a piece that’s rather tender, ethereal and pleasing.

Layering a soft shimmering instrumental with South Korean spoken words, ‘Cave’ also seems to make good use of their members’ artistic prowess, all bringing something unique to the table. Soul-native Peter Yoon contributes with heartwarming guitars and vocals, weaving a delicate tapestry of post-rock and dreamy indie energy with California-born drummer John Wright.

Title-track ‘Sun Underground’ reveals Keith Reds’ grittier side, taking a cue from 90s alt-rock, yet never paying full tribute to it. Instead, the two talented voyagers build a sonic universe that’s entirely their own, distilling tradition and futurism with limitless charisma. The listening experience is satisfactory, aiding escapism and introspection. ‘Sun Underground’ will likely help in dealing with an over-complexed reality.
