The psych-rock, alternative crowd will rejoice at Grund’s latest effort. Hailing from Sweden, the creative post-rock outfit channels a vast wealth of experimentation and retro influences under their belt, making for a sound that’s familiar yet boundary-pushing, a sonic livery steeped in tradition, but with a modern flair. ‘Tornet’ is all of that: featuring expansive guitar riffs and an eclectic, almost decadent sonic formula, the single creates an aural experience that’s hazy and cathartic.
As it proceeds, ‘Tornet’ greatly raises the musical stakes, delivering dazzling, euphoric post-rock chaos with a touch of avant-garde and ambient prowess. What more could you ask for? Lyrics are in Swedish, but it all adds to Grund’s impressively otherworldly atmospheres, truly showcasing their unique artistry.
Hailing from Gothenburg, the project is formed by Hugo Welther, Sebastian Sandström, John Ekberg and Rickard Ribbås. They have all been a staple of the local scene for years, and it’s not a surprise to see the Grund sound become so mature, intricate and nuanced. After all, there’s a great deal of research and trial and error behind it.
