Stepping out of one’s comfort zone can be rewarding. Luan Luan knows it well: teaming up with fellow creative Tiiva, they found themselves swimming in hyper-pop, ethereal waters, a perhaps novel experience for the Brighton-based musical voyager, yet one that seems to fit them rather well. Aptly titled ‘A SONG YOU WON’T FORGET’, the record first emerged from Tiiva’s fertile artistry, embarking on liminal, nuanced sound design and limitless dreamy soundscapes.
The talented British producer and composer then had a curious intuition, asking Luan Luan to lend her expansive, shimmering vocals to the cause. Of course, it’s all treated in futuristic goo, a slice of boundary-pushing, pop-informed avant-garde piece. Tiiva does a great job of making the track both relatable and otherworldly – a quality that will likely appeal to a wide audience.
Lyrically, ‘A SONG YOU WON’T FORGET is steeped in positive nostalgia. Freeing themselves from melancholic energy, Luan Luan and Tiiva indulge in an authentic reflection on constant change. As we are told: “‘A SONG YOU WON’T FORGET’ is about the memories we carry with us from one place to the next, the rituals we did with friends, the playlists that soundtrack the lives of people we see and never speak to. This song is for friendships and the cities where we become more ourselves, it’s a song for queer love and for understanding ourselves more.”
