Benjamin Rajani Shares Intimate, Nostalgic Piece ‘Lívsins balkong’

The keen reader will be glad to see Benjamin Rajani back with new music. Featuring the Faroese voyager’s previous single ‘Mánakvøld’ back in December, we proudly declared it “a deeply magical listening experience”. We stand by our words: the project wraps listeners into a heightened sense of wonder, a poignant, cathartic sonic universe informed by a vast array of sources, including alt-folk and liminal, intimate electronica.

Officially, Rajani finds his aural character in the Nordic heroes that came before him: think of Sigur Rós. Practically, there’s also an earthy, authentic quality in his songwriting, resembling the likes of Neil Young, among others. ‘Lívsins balkong’ (‘The Balcony of Life’) is Benjamin’s latest effort. Taken from his upcoming album ‘Tá hvørt ljós líkist tæ’, the single positively expands the sonic picture, embracing elegant, pompous arrangements and wider instrumentation.

Rajani’s vocals are special as always, drenched in spacious textures and limitless harmonies. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, he explains: “I wrote ‘Lívsins balkong’ one night in Manchester when I was feeling especially nostalgic for those long Faroese summer nights spent with friends, making memories. The longing for simpler times hit me, and writing the song turned out to be one of the most memorable songwriting experiences I’ve ever had.”
