Greta Isaac Asks Important Questions in Stunning EP ‘Productive Pain’

Decoding Greta Isaac’s multifaceted artistry into a short literary piece is perhaps a futile endeavour. Not because she wouldn’t be worth it – on the contrary, it would be the pinnacle of any music writer worth their salt. Rather, because of the deep intertwining between the project’s introspective, personal lyricism and its aural counterpoint, a quality that has to be experienced first-hand to be truly understood. Take for instance Isaac’s latest EP, ‘Productive Pain’.

Laced with tender folk and acoustic energy, the record is intricate and sophisticated as it is evocative and cathartic. The arrangements share a certain ‘pointillistic’ quality, with heartwarming acoustic guitars matched by a universe of fragrant percussive samples and quirky textures. Greta’s commanding vocals are drenched in fuzziness and spacious effects, increasing the EP’s heavenly flavour.

The songs cut deep into our conscience, with the London-based voyager laying it all out: from love’s demanding, ambitious nature to the pains of our ever-evolving identities: Isaac asks all the right questions with a mystical, prophetic tone, urging listeners to embrace a vulnerable, contemplative state of mind.

An important note: ‘Productive Pain’ has been created to be “listened to in one sitting as a cohesive work”. ‘I’m sad and I’m angry and i’m scared that you hate me’ particularly caught our attention.
