Marco Ragozza Shares Personal, Melancholic Album ‘Fall and What Comes After’

Not all records are created equal. Some focus on their mainstream appeal, perhaps in a futile attempt to maximize financial returns. Others, take a more authentic route, standing as a direct output of their authors’ personal expression. ‘Fall and What Comes After’ belongs to the latter category: an incredibly meaningful and honest piece, the album collects Marco Ragozza’s deeper, darkest thoughts, threading a fine needle between depressive urges and long-standing resilience.

From a musical standpoint, ‘Fall and What Comes After’ is beautifully elegant, a nuanced concoction of poignant rock gems and punchier efforts. In fact, there’s a certain eclecticism in it, taking the record from gentle, organic tracks such as ‘No Rebels Here’ to fuzzier and intense alt and prog rock-flavoured explorations – ‘Another Man’ being the perfect example of it. While Ragozza is certainly an inspired songwriter and gifted singer – boasting a dynamic, luscious tone – his band is also finely talented, often engaging in intricate arrangements and liminal atmospheres.

Masterfully recorded at MiddleFarm Studios in Devon, ‘Fall and What Comes After’ is an impressive offering. The London-based songster does a stellar job guiding the whole endeavour forward, sharing vulnerabilities and a high degree of nostalgia with his listeners. It’s also quite decadent and gloomy, with a certain gothic character to it. The project’s compositional richness speaks for itself.

Speaking about the ideas behind the album, Ragozza explains: “It reflects my own journey through intense personal struggles, exploring the loss of past familiar relationships, the emotional weight of change, and the battle with my inner darkness.”
