Don’t let the playful character behind the ‘Bulletproof’ video sway you from the hard work Freekstar had to endure, to arrive where they are today. Boasting experience alongside seminal bands in some of London’s coolest venues, the now Newcastle-based outfit has found a hard-hitting formula that’s light and uplifting, yet also nuanced and meaningful. ‘Bulletproof’ is the perfect evidence of that. Sharing a seemingly empowering message, the track is also perfectly executed and recorded, a true pop-punk banger.
Euphoric but also grounded, ‘Bulletproof’ showcases the class guitarist Tim Hutchinson and singer Sharon Wilson have to offer, joining forces on a bold, fierce offering with a healthy balance of guitar distortion and twitchy synths. Wilson’s dynamic vocals are a perfect match for such an explosive arrangement.
The record is also shipped with a unique music video, featuring the two Freekstar members in animal costumes (teddy bears). Seeking to evoke the quintessential craziness of the pop-punk era, we’d say they certainly reach their goal, sharing a slice of freedom and bubbly energy for anyone in need of it.
