The keen reader might recall Neil C. Young, gifted guitarist and composer with a keen eye for eclecticism and fusion elements. Writing about his previous record ‘Reworks Vol. 2’, we proudly described it as “showcasing the Manchester-based guitarist’s ability to immerse himself into limitless territories, looking at music with uncategorised lenses – simply following his instincts and musical taste.” We stand by our words, especially as we slowly dive into Young’s latest release, ‘Crazy For You’.
Taken from Neil’s upcoming album ‘Reworks Vol.3’ – which will be available exclusively on Bandcamp – the track greatly reiterates the overarching context of the Reworks series, extrapolating existing melodies and hooks, transporting them into different musical territories and interpreting them with an eclectic sensibility. Featuring jazz, rock and bluesy archetypes, ‘Crazy for You’ is rather wide in its sonic references. Young remains anchored to an elegant, fuzzy guitar tone, boasting a very bold outlook on harmonies (especially relevant in the constant interplay between bass and guitar).
This could be a jazz-rock progressive record from the 70s, or a fusion tune from the early 90s. Yet, there’s also a heightened futuristic flair in it, perhaps echoing Neil’s fertile imagination and self-expressive nature. Performing on ‘Crazy For You’ are: Neil C. Young: guitar/FX; Sam Dale: bass guitar; Ben McCabe: drum kit.
