Atticus Roness Returns with Poppy Gem ‘Why’

The keen reader will gladly remember American troubadour Atticus Roness. Writing about ‘Not The One (I’m Looking For) earlier this year, we proudly described it as having a “lush, elegant power-pop livery”, something that appears to be a constant in the project’s latest effort ‘Why’. Marking the journey towards Roness’ upcoming album ‘Power Pop World Domination’, expected in April, the track showcases once again the project’s ability to balance fuzzy, rowdy guitars and velvety, expressive vocals, all with a certain flair for retro tones and rock’n’roll charisma.

Produced by Caleb Heiple and co-written with Stephen Grubb and Andrew Hendrix, ‘Why’ is decisively catchy and approachable, a radio-ready nugget that’s bound to appeal to a wider audience. This feeling is confirmed by Atticus himself: “‘Why’ is the pop song on the record. It’s everything I was raised on musically and more. It’s a great example of less is more, with its short run time and ‘to-the-point’ lyrical content. It’s sure to get stuck in anyone’s head, and I’m more than proud of it.”

Singing about ‘blissful ignorance’, Atticus Roness does a great job of successfully blending his traditional rock roots with a more expansive, relatable imprint. The American talent’s vocal tone is the perfect match for such an effort: nuanced and gritty, yet controlled and heartwarming. The perfect tension between popular and niche.
