Darksister Debuts with Cathartic Gem ‘The Siren’

Darksister doesn’t offer a lot of information about the project. Yet, the music speaks for itself: drenched in crepuscular energy and mysterious textures, the American project finds itself at indie’s most experimental end, finding a way to still sound relatable and expressive. ‘The Siren’ is the perfect evidence of that: a haunting, melancholic gem, the track comes alive amidst a flurry of noisy soundscapes and gentle, poignant guitar tones.

Darksister’s vocal prowess is rather prophetic and luscious, seemingly mirroring a younger, bolder Thom Yorke. We are in awe of such poignancy, especially given that the track still manages to retain its buoyant, whimsical character, even between all the overwhelming nostalgia. An immersive, cathartic effort, ‘The Siren’ is also quite different from ‘Lovers Lullaby’, Darksister’s latest episode.

Packing retro drum machines and a fiercer nature, ‘Lovers Lullaby’ expands the project’s sonic palette while retaining the same ambiguous, curious energy of its predecessor. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘The Siren’, the American creative explains: “My first song under this new moniker. It’s an expression of feelings about my job at Starbucks, which I quit two days ago.”
