Introspective, down to earth, and offering listeners the chance to take a break from this hectic world, ‘The Bigger Picture’ is the exceptional new album from Swedish trombonist Oscar Utterström. Based in Nashville, Oscar enlisted the expertise of Los Angeles-based lyricist Wayne Moore and vocalist Molly Parden to bring his musical vision to life. Let’s just say they didn’t disappoint!
Featuring both instrumental and vocal tunes, ‘The Bigger Picture’ is a deeply soothing and serene record, with the album’s delicate opener ‘Forward’ setting the tone perfectly before the title track steps up to the plate. As the lengthiest song on the record, there’s quite a lot to unpack, but in essence, it’s an eclectic sonic journey of epic proportions that needs to be heard to be fully appreciated.
‘Home’ is a simply stunning and emotive piece of music that just hits all the right notes, while its predecessor ‘Happiness’ offers up something of a palette cleanser before we’re introduced to more gentle beauty in the form of ‘Beware’.
With eight tunes still to be discovered, including a smashing cover of Diane Warren’s ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’, all I can do is urge you to give ‘The Bigger Picture’ a spin. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
