‘Executioner’ is an incredibly striking, hard-hitting offering. It’s rather short – clocking in at just over a minute – yet it hits the listener like a bang of bricks, putting The End Is Near’s violent, gloomy stylings at its forefront. Delving into deathcore shores, the record still manages not to sound too extreme, despite the melancholic, decadent vibe. Hailing from Orange Country, the group has been a longstanding project, finally distilling years of experience into an impressive, monumental effort.
Anticipating an upcoming EP, ‘Executioner’ is exactly what we’d expect from such gifted musicians. Let’s be honest: the track is intelligently written, and there’s a strong artistic ethos behind it – a winning idea. Yet, The End Is Near are able to perform it perfectly. From Chris Hagen’s furious, screamy vocals to Nick Rickenbach’s relentless drumming, passing through Tim Baker’s expansive guitars and creative production. Notably, the energy they exude in the record is remarkable, even so for a trio.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, the band explain: “Executioner is the Intro and Title track of our very first EP coming out 02.25.25. It is a heavy hitter of a track and sets the tone for the sonic onslaught of the whole EP. It’s Heavy, It’s aggressive, and it has a catchy hook which isn’t always the easiest thing to do in our genre.” We are keen to hear more!
