Our first contact with American creative Valley Taylor took place just over a few months ago, when writing about last year’s album ‘Lifetime of Unending Joy’. We proudly described the record as “a nugget of cathartic energy and poignant vibrancy”, a definition that could be just as easily applied to Taylor’s overall artistry. Evidence of that is further offered in Valley’s latest effort, a striking new album that proves the blissful productivity he’s enjoying at the moment.
‘Sunlight Filtered Through The Tree In My Window’ does exactly what it says on the tin. A crepuscular, nuanced and hazy offering, the album captures the best Taylor has to offer, layering tender guitar tones over long electronic soundscapes and lush vocals. It’s a heavenly recipe, one that pairs perfectly with Valley’s meaningful lyricism, often looking at nostalgic and introspective themes. In a way, the record is a collection of sun-filled musical pieces, a refreshing, nurturing musical plate aimed at brightening the listener’s day.
Speaking about the inspiration behind such a long and specific title, Taylor explains how it relates to a real-life tree growing outside his home studio, having to be cut down to being too high and dangerous. This causes a deep chain reaction in Valley’s feelings. He continues: “The poignant narrative behind the album reflects on growth, change, and the bittersweet realization of our own impermanence”.
