NYRE Releases Spellbinding Debut EP ‘Avoidant’

‘Avoidant’ is an EP we’ve been waiting patiently for here at Mesmerized. Courtesy of Toronto-based artist NYRE, the four-track offering actually features two tunes we’ve already covered in ‘You Didn’t Mean It’ and ‘It Should Be You’. Unpacking the mess of disillusionment, lost love, and manic detachment, NYRE delivers fourteen minutes of captivating electro-pop and introspective storytelling. Hard-hitting, expertly assembled, and utterly cinematic, ‘Avoidant’ is an audacious sonic journey that deserves your attention.

‘It Should Be You’ begins proceedings, a song we’ve previously described as “oscillating between synth-powered richness and apparent minimalism.” It’s lush and intimate, setting the scene perfectly for the EP’s standout track ‘Joke’s On Me’. A minimalist piano, shimmering synths, and NYRE’s evocative vocals form the backbone of ‘Joke’s On Me’, as the artist wonderfully captures the risk of love…where trust and vulnerability turn into pain.

‘You Didn’t Mean It’ is a genre-blending and highly intriguing piece of music, before ‘Main Character’ plays us out with more gooey and eclectic sonic textures that pull you straight in.

Seemingly getting better and better with each new release, NYRE presents a bold and refreshing take on pop music. She’s the genuine article, and undoubtedly worth keeping an eye (and ear) on going forward!
