Sure, it’s early days, but Seattle-based singer/songwriter Brian Noyes‘ latest single ‘Tapestries’ has firmly claimed the title of my standout track of the year so far. A delicate, folky, and dreamy psych-pop offering, ‘Tapestries’ serves as the first single from Brian’s forthcoming album ‘Seelie Court’, and was admittedly influenced by legendary musicians Bert Jansch and Nick Drake. “I was using the BEBEBE tuning on guitar that Drake used on ‘From The Morning’,” says Noyes.
Laidback and airy, yet also deeply profound and heartfelt, ‘Tapestries’ wraps the listener up in a warm sonic blanket – laying the groundwork for what promises to be a remarkable record. Attempting to categorise such a layered and introspective tune seems a pointless task, but what I will say is that it’s a truly haunting piece of music that has spoken to my soul in ways very few songs have.
Working alongside famed producer Jason Quever, (Cass McCombs, Beach House, Papercuts) Brian’s upcoming album will also feature contributions from Alvvays and Sugar Candy Mountain band members.
Truthfully, I haven’t been this excited about a new record in some time. Mark your calendars for March 7th, and get ready to indulge in what will undoubtedly be ten lush psych-pop jewels.
