Writing about the project back in April, we proudly celebrated him as “an active explorer of everything that’s boundary-breaking, with a keen eye towards body liberation and fierce Queerness.” We stand by our words, more so after his latest effort, the dazzling, hyper-pop-flavoured meaningful gem ‘UNSERIOUS’.
Incredibly contemporary and with a punchy electronic flair (featuring additional production by Frank Royal and Jennings Couch), the single is rather cryptic and mysterious in its lyricism, focusing on the empowerment that comes with embracing a higher state of consciousness. Such a cathartic topic is a perfect match for the record’s inner eclecticism. In particular, NEO 10Y explains: “It’s about incorporating Vedic philosophies and referencing psychedelics, reclaiming the chemical compound adrenochrome, and bringing biohacking to the mainstream”.
The ultimate goal is accessing a luxurious, elite-level source of energy, deeply tied to the magnificence of love and true consciousness. At a time when many people seem to have lost their motivation and their purpose, ‘UNSERIOUS’ serves as an anthemic, mythical artistic entity that is willing to scramble our beliefs and self-worth, helping us achieve a higher version of ourselves.
Lastly, NEO 10Y shares the intricate concept behind his creative moniker: “My name, NEO 10Y, comes from the concept of “neoteny,” which is about retaining youthful qualities into adulthood, both physically and spiritually… “NEO” is an anagram for “ONE,” symbolizing oneness, while the “1” and “0” represent binary code, embodying unity. The “Y” in my name stands for curiosity, a driving force toward love. My birth name, Nikhil, means “oneness” in Sanskrit, which aligns with my artistic vision of connection and universal love…”.
