Horizonte Lied Remaster Haunting Single ‘El Día Después’

It’s been a while since we heard from Horizonte Lied, yet their gloomy, niche sound imprint is instantly recognisable. A long-standing project drenched in new wave and obscure electro influences, the Mexican outfit has spent the last few years releasing remasters of old records, bringing new life to material that, frankly, will never go out of date, being so quirky and peculiar. ‘El Día Después’ is part of such an effort, a single that’s mysterious, electrifying, and saturated.

Built on Depeche Mode-esque synth work and melancholic guitars, ‘El Día Después’ benefits from founder Alex Ezert’s evocative, cathartic vocals, delivered in Spanish with a distinctly ethereal and otherworldly character. In the choruses, one can easily pick apart the Nine Inch Nail references, especially thanks to the extremely sombre and anthemic vibe.

Included in the Remastered edition, we find a longer, more abstract remix and an instrumental version. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Horizonte Lied explain: “A series of personal events involving a deep reflection about keeping personal secrets that eventually escape us in difficult times. This often leads to abuse of the expectation of forgiveness from others and deceiving ourselves with wishful/romantic thinking.”
