‘Dive’ truly relates to us, in stylistic and sonic terms. Built on an evocative blend of new wave and indie guitar-powered matter, the track features sharp riffing and long, spacious tones, especially regarding the vocal delivery. Such an eclectic, gloomy yet intense offering makes up the foundational qualities behind Blue Coffee. Hailing from Marseille, the French outfit has been around for a few years by now, and their creativity is richer than ever.
A quartet, Blue Coffee are Gautier Rodriguez, Nicolas de Bank, Sébastien Tourel and François Debiol. Finding their common ground in the many Britpop influences and international alt-rock outfits, the group has been looking over their national border since its inception, appealing to a diverse and global crowd. Personally, we find something very nostalgic in ‘Dive’; perhaps a whiff of early 2000’ indie energy, together with gloomier, darker elements, often reminiscent of The Cure, among others.
Speaking about the lyricism behind the single, Blue Coffee explains: “It focuses on climate change and the urgency of the value of hope.” A meaningful and valuable message for the modern world. Showcasing the French band’s ability to put together a striking musical piece with equally relatable songwriting content.
