The Afro Nick boasts quite an interesting origin story; the musical brainchild of Greek musician Nick Anastasakis, the project has followed the talented creative both in New York City and Los Angeles, where he is currently based. In between playing for other artists, he does find the time to record his own material, with ‘Get There Before Noon’ one of the primest examples of it.
Released as an alternative ‘LA Mix’, the song had originally been written and recorded in New York, now released with a more fluid, eclectic livery and a charming synth solo, penned by Grammy-winning performer Leonardo Genovese. Its lyricism comes from personal experience, with Anastasakis describing the feeling and need to get on what one must do, regardless of obstacles and circumstances.
As he so eloquently explains: “After a late and long hangout at my apartment in NYC I woke up with a hangover but I had to go record for another artist and I had to get there before noon. You only have one life. You gotta do what you have to do and do it as soon as possible.” Overall, ‘Get There Before Noon’ is well balanced between relatable, melodic songwriting and forward-thinking, leftfield arrangements, making The Afro Nick a project with lots of future potential.
