One could say that John Tibbits is closing the year just like he started it; by releasing wonderful new music. Only, this time around he’s reached his ultimate goal, completing that very same journey that made 2024 such a crucial year for the English troubadour: the road to his debut album. We are pleased to report that ‘Music Is Life’ is now among us, an eight-track record drenched in Tibbits’ wisdom-packed, meaningful songwriting and soothing, folk-lenient sonic imprint.
In it, the keen reader will recognise the vast majority of songs, previously released as singles. Yet, there’s something incredibly empowering and cathartic in being able to look at John’s artistic outlook from a holistic point of view. A bird’s eye of Tibbits’ eclecticism: going from acoustic guitars and traditional fiddles to grittier distortions and rowdy drums, the English gentleman oscillates between heartfelt folk matter and more intense rock material.
Tibbits’ earthy, dynamic and gloomy vocals are the constant factor, facilitating the fragile and important topics touched by the songs, from the current political landscapes to mental health, passing through social and environmental anthems. Our favourite piece so far? ‘No Heaven Here’: incredibly evocative and weirdly uplifting.
