‘BURN DOWN THE NOW’ embraces a charmingly unpolished vibe, letting its raw energy shine through. It’s scrappy…and captures a sort of spontaneity and realness that I find too many bands are missing these days.
The tune is the latest from Sunderland-based act NTGB, a collaboration between guitarist and songwriter Nick Thompson and vocalist Gaz Brown. As the duo’s first self-produced release, ‘BURN DOWN THE NOW’ sees NTGB breaking free from the shackles of studios and engineers. Determined to create music on their own terms, they’ve delivered a fierce declaration of independence that also just happens to be an incredibly catchy earworm.
“The song is inspired by coming out of a struggle,” says Nick and Gaz. “Stepping out of a bad day or a bad episode and leaving it all behind and focusing on the positives and moving forward”.
With a list of influences as long as our playlist, NTGB brings together a wide array of inspirations to concoct a sound that feels completely organic. There are hints of Sex Pistols, Oasis, and The Coral, with notes of The Vaccines and The Charlatans creeping through too. All in all, ‘BURN DOWN THE NOW’ feels like an instant classic, even though it was literally just released!
