Diego Philips Delivers Highly Emotive New EP ‘I want to laugh until I cry’

Cards on the table…I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at Diego Philips‘ delicate new EP before the rest of the world. I was incredibly grateful – but found it hard being unable to share it with you lovely people. Thankfully, today, I finally can!

Born in Belgium and currently based in London, Diego has earned a reputation for his soulful and emotive storytelling – both of which are on full display in his latest EP ‘I want to laugh until I cry’. A five-track offering of heartfelt, folk-rooted, and deeply personal music, Diego’s new record takes on a sonically minimalist approach, allowing for his melancholic vocals to be on full display.

Tunes like ‘I want to laugh until I cry’ and ‘Time’ are described by the artist as a “meditative exploration of time, memory, and emotional resilience,” as he channels the sounds of musicians like José González and Nick Drake.

Shizuku Tatsuno joins Diego on the EP, providing some of the most haunting and evocative swells of cello I’ve ever come across, and over five songs, the pair frankly craft a sonic masterclass in understated yet unforgettable music. A truly spellbinding EP, ‘I want to laugh until I cry’ will remain with me for some time.
