Self-described as ‘Mary Poppins Core’ by Madelline herself, ‘Uh Uh (Outside)’ is first and foremost a slice of euphoric retro pop drenched in dance energy and eclectic flair. Built on punchy and modern beats, the track seems to be as leftfield as it is mainstream, drawing from the likes of scenecore and hyperpop as much as it does from Eurodance and recession pop.
Hailing from Canada, Madelline has managed to rally a staggering number of followers across the board, a signal that her visually rich, uplifting and playful aesthetic speaks to many out there. We can only praise Madelline’s creativity, and if ‘Uh Uh (Outside)’ is any indication of what’s coming next year, she’s about to become an even bigger star.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, the Canadian artist explains: “‘Uh Uh (Outside)’ blends whimsical elements of vintage musical theatre nostalgia I grew up on & bratty early 2000s pop a la the icons Gwen Stefani and Fergie. For the cover art, I dressed up as Mary Poppins outside a club flying on my umbrella but with thigh-high, lace-up, 6-inch platform boots flashing out of my skirt.”
