An incredivbly elegant and heartfelt album, ‘Two Ghosts’ continues Battleviews’ artistic legacy, following up from last year’s comprehensive release ‘All of My Days’. Like their previous effort, ‘Two Ghosts’ seeks to channel the heartfelt, intimate energy evoked by the project’s nuanced lyricism, providing a meaningful stream of Americana and Folk material with an intimate, personal twist.
Formed by New Jersey-based, husband and wife duo Ryan and Natalie Raichilson, Battleviews still manage to retain certain eclecticism in their compositional choice. For instance, ‘Two Ghosts’ opens with the acoustic, soothing gem ‘Bed’, only to then jump into punchier territories with the rock-lenient, uplifting piece ‘Open Door’. ‘Mine’ takes the focus back to a gentle guitar and luscious strings, a rather common theme in the album.
Overall, ‘Two Ghosts’ is a slow-paced record, a collection of meaningful pieces that deserve their time and space. The keen listeners should approach the album with calmness and open-mindedness, allowing the many contrasting emotions to run their course. Speaking about lyricism, Battleviews explain: “It tackles themes ranging from the joy and hardships of parenthood, heartache and loss, to an 1800’s ghost story.”
