It was early October when we celebrated ‘Eloise’ as “exactly what we would expect from a classy, wise and talented French troubadour”. Built on playful and quirky folk and French pop flair, the track flourished on Gutsy’s earthy, smokey vocals, a feature that provides a highly charismatic and elegant listening experience. Now, Romain is back with his latest effort, a mellower, heartwarming gem titled ‘In The Moonlight’.
Packed with nostalgia and melancholia, ‘In The Moonlight’ moves at a slow pace and with an intimate attitude, wrapping Gutsy’s nuanced vocal tone into vibrant acoustic matter and a surprisingly well-fitting steel guitar. The result is a poignant, welcoming and meaningful piece that perfectly fits the festive ethos. While it’s not strictly a Christmas record, the message of love and passion it shares well resonates with it.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Romain explains: “It was born out of a dream. How would you describe love in a few pictures, with a moon in the background, the shadow of the night around you, the gentle wind gliding over the leaves and the skins, and a tremendous attraction between two beings? That’s In the Moonlight.”
