This is a very trippy record, especially after a few listens. There’s something inexplicably eerie, even ominous, in the minimal, bell-like melodies delivering classic festive themes, and the contrasting punchy, hard-hitting and intricate jungle/D&B grooves. Penned by Cambridge-based outfit Juicy Brown Music, ‘Jingle Bells (Drum and Bass Mix)’ does exactly what it says on the tin: offering the listeners one of the most striking artistic pairings we have heard in a while.
There’s not much we can describe about it, as it truly needs to be experienced, both for the amount of groove in it – its drum and bass component sharing old-school rave vibes – and the high-pitched, pastoral melodies and tones on top. Furthermore, the track in question is extracted from a wider EP which contains other festive classics, such as ‘Deck the Hall’ and ‘Silent Night’.
This is an unexpected treat, and if you have ever gone to a club, this might be a record for you – give it a chance! Speaking about the inspiration behind it, Juicy Brown Music explain: “The combination of the joy of dance music, and the joy of Christmas – it will bring a fun twist to your playlists, kitchen raves, and dance floors”.
