Quickly following up from his debut effort ‘November 17’, Ghent-based indie outfit fig trees has now unveiled their latest single, a charmingly soft and nuanced piece that picks up exactly where they left off. Anticipating a full album to be released in spring 2025 (‘Room 22’), the Belgian group continues their glorious path towards artistic realization. Honestly, we are very impressed with their sonic character.
Boasting a light, playful yet meaningful outlook, fig trees navigate a rather eclectic musical livery, balancing over hazy indie tones and folk-driven intimacy. Vocals are delivered with a true ‘troubadour’ attitude, often paired with a series of wonderful harmonies. ‘Hotel Pomeroke’ perfectly reflects such an evocative formula, making for a listening experience that’s cathartic and relatable.
Writing about wanting to take up a three-day weekend, fig trees have almost inspired us to do the same – why not scramble the norm? As they explain: “This song is about the struggle to find time for musical passion. To create space, JJ extended his weekends to three days—a challenging choice for a man in Western culture.”
