Boasting a long career surfing a wide range of musical influences and artistic projects, Canadian songstress Camille Miller has now returned with her latest effort, a charming album with a strong Americana and folk imprint, yet still drenched in Miller’s overwhelming eclecticism. Now based in Portugal, Camille salvaged a number of old songs, framing them into ‘Shadows and Lines’, a record that showcases all of the songwriting prowess she has to offer.
It’s a triumph: from the country-lenient lands of opener ‘Leave It Alone’ to the more modern emotional rock of follow-up ‘Nest’, there’s something for everyone in the album. ‘Summer Dress’ takes the energy down again, embracing the project’s poignant, evocative side. Although to be fair, Miller’s vocals are always expressive and vibrant, no matter the context they are used in. A formidable singer, the Portugal-based talent writes about a comprehensive series of topics, from everyday struggles to the fragile relationships between human beings, passing through contemporary-driven political commentary.
That’s how it’s supposed to be: having reached an artistic milestone and an enviable wealth of experience, Camille is now free to express herself how she sees fit, wrapping listeners in relatable lyricism and teachable life lessons. Producer Chris Aiken joins Miller on the record.
