Trash Pals Celebrates Love in Compelling EP ‘Power Hug’

It’s been a productive year for Trash Pals; following up on a string of singles, the Los Angeles-based duo recently returned with an expansive EP, the love-themed effort ‘Power Hug’. We feel as if the record is a stepping stone for the project, now solidifying their elegant and lightly cool sonic character with a substantial collection of music. It’s indeed in line with their past releases, but we feel as though ‘Power Hug’ takes that formula and passes it through the best filters possible.

Narrating and celebrating love as a universal concept and its multiple forms – self-love, platonic love, and romantic love – Trash Pals embarks on a stunning display of mild-mannered lyricism, delivered with their usual hazy vocal tones and understated energy. Melodies are mellow, welcoming and heartwarming, which is exactly what one would expect from such a meaningful record.

From a sonic standpoint, ‘Power Hug’ is a melting pot of indie, folk and electronica, all declined to serve Trash Pals’ fresh and edgy character. Oscillating between lo-fi sections and more solidly built resolutions, the record is a stunning display of what’s on offer, wrapping the listeners into a cathartic, relatable sonic universe.
