It’s been a while since we had the pleasure of reviewing a track from Los Angeles-based musician Phil Galloni, better known by his moniker Waverly Drive. Tunes like ‘Now I Know’ and ‘Just a Feeling’ were firm favourites around these parts last year, and it’s truly fantastic to hear from the artist and his band once again.
‘Ordinary Lover’ is Phil’s brand new offering, and it’s a song the artist says “is a nod to the past while looking towards the future”.
Released in celebration of the second anniversary of Waverly Drive’s debut EP ‘Living in a Fantasy’, ‘Ordinary Lover’ is a rich, warm, and nostalgia-laced piece of music that lingers long after it’s over. Drenched in heartfelt synthy goodness and featuring the wonderful trumpet work of Cameron Ljungkull, the brief yet impactful tune leaves one yearning for more.
“The song delves into the theme of finding extraordinary love in the most ordinary places, moments, and ways,” says Phil. A musician known for his honest and emotive storytelling, ‘Ordinary Lover’ is one more illustration of Waverly Drive’s gift for crafting resonant and relatable music. It’s also the perfect addition to a discography that thrives on heartfelt authenticity.
