It’s been a while since we had the opportunity to review a powerful, all-out melancholic rock ballad. We mean it: a stadium-ready, anthemic, slow-paced gem built on clean guitar tones and melodious, evocative vocals. ‘Someday’ fits all those criteria, showcasing the nuanced and impressive work of Indian guitarist and singer Chandresh Kudwa.
A seminal figure in the Indian music landscape, the Mumbai-based artist gifts the single with a stunning and technical guitar solo, and it’s perhaps there that we get a glimpse of what Kudwa stands for. Echoing the AOR and classic rock stylings of the 90s and late 80s, Chandresh seems to borrow from a wide variety of sources, be it Metallica’s slow-burning ballads or Joe Satriani’s dynamic and intricate musical prowess.
From a lyrical standpoint, ‘Someday’ is incredibly relevant to today’s problematic and gloomy reality. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Kudwa explains: “The turbulent times we live in, marked by violence and wars across the world, inspired me to write a song that carries a message of hope—believing that someday, hate will settle down and peace will prevail.”
