We are euphoric at the strong dark wave vibes in ‘Hunt’. Nothing is more Mesmerizing than that, we believe! Rooted in post-punk and new-wave influences, the record is fully up to date with the modern music landscape, where fast-paced, retro-flavoured beats and a tight bassline go hand in hand with spacious, gloomy vocals and an overall lo-fi aura.
That’s exactly what ‘Hunt’ is about. A relatively short offering – clocking in at roughly a minute and a half – the track is intense and haunting, perhaps even eerie in its vocal delivery. Chicago-based indie creative WOOF is solely responsible for such artistic goodness, wrapping his vocals into a dark filter and packing them with reverb. It’s a formula that works very well, making ‘Hunt’ one of our favourite discoveries this week.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, WOOF explains: “The thrill and desperation of chasing what you want – or running from what haunts you.” Such a melancholic lyrical theme is the perfect match for the single’s sonic livery. We’d call it a match made in heaven, but given the edgy territory, it’s probably more of a match made in hell?
