Jay Si Proof is a Portland-based outfit led by singer/songwriter Jeff Chilton, and their most recent offering ‘Love Bug Drug’ is a cosy and laidback little number that I can’t get out of my head!
Inspired by Theo Katzman (Vulfpeck) and Rachel Price (Lake Street Dive) to depart from their previous funk-infused sound, Jay Si Proof deliver a more relaxing and contemplative piece of music that is simply beautiful.
Laced with nostalgia and a carefree attitude, ‘Love Bug Drug’ is a tune Chilton insisted on having an intimate and acoustic production. Wanting to emphasise the homey nature of the track and the fall season it was penned in, it’s as if the song itself breathes the crisp air of autumn straight into your ears. You can almost feel the crunch of the leaves beneath your feet. Just gorgeous!
Describing themselves as a “band of explorers peering into their own depths and into the depths of what they can create as artists,” Jay Si Proof go where the music takes them. Unafraid to explore the road less travelled, they’re an act that thrives on artistic curiosity, and most of the time, that makes for deeply compelling music.
