There is an imaginary line, making its way around the world, and connecting acts as diverse as Florida-based hero DXRKKNGHT to Eastern European band Motorama, passing for German talent Edwin Rosen. This imaginary line flourishes on retro and post-punk vibes, often taking the name of retrowave or post-punk.
DXRKKNGHT has caught our attention recently, thanks to the release of a charismatic 5-track EP, ‘WXSTED YOUTH’. In it, you’ll find everything you have ever wanted: dusty, lo-fi guitars, punchy drum machines, and understated, cloudy vocals, perfectly complimenting the sonic universe they are framed into. Our favourite track must be the opener ‘Exist’: a truly stunning post-punk effort, emanating lots of retro vibes while being drenched in contemporaneity.
Yeah, it is super cool. We won’t even use fancy words here: DXRKKNGHT is as fresh as one can be. Describing the creative reasoning behind the record, the American talent explains: “The name “WXSTED YOUTH” is inspired by the idea that we waste so much of our youth on love and being codependent. Each song highlights a different point in my life and/or different situations where I have had to battle with that.”
“The thing about my music is that I will always be vulnerable on my songs, allowing the listener to relate to the point where things I say directly apply to them.”
We relate, and we are fully on board. Recommended!
