Often seen championing eclectic pop territories, Josh Hicks seems to be comfortable and at home in a variety of different settings. Soul, R&B, electronic bops… the key is in his stunning, melodious and dynamic vocals, able to hypnotize listeners in an instant. It is no wonder that the English troubadour’s latest effort hits so hard. A nuanced acoustic EP, ‘Live & Acoustic’ allows us to go straight to the source of Hicks’ creative strengths: his songwriting and vocal tone.
Stripped from any production, the record shines its own light, and frankly, it’s even more impressive, Josh has so much talent in him. While the industry is slowly starting to wake up to the project’s artistry, we are confident he deserves a much bigger audience. It won’t be long before that happens. Panning back to the EP, it all started with ‘To Love For A Day’, co-written in 2020 with Amy Walton.
The soulful nature of the song meant it didn’t really have a place in Hicks’ catalogue. Until now: ‘Live & Acoustic’ framed it into a larger narrative, collecting a selection of older singles now re-recorded with an acoustic livery. As Josh explains: “Hopefully, you can connect with these songs on a deeper level and learn to love the acoustic versions just as much as the studio recordings!”
