Our next new music discovery emerges from Italy, a nation that’s always been particularly prolific when it comes to the alternative scene and leftfield experimentation. Dino Flange follows that same pattern, delving into dreamy and expansive psychedelia, tinged in shoegaze tones and prominent indie energy. Titled ‘Andare Via’ (Italian for ‘going away’), the piece is rather metaphorical and mysterious in its lyricism.
An introspective reflection on life as a whole, ‘Andare Via’ shines a light on the sense of confusion that many of us may feel at times, especially relating to long-term expectations and the direction each one of us is going. In that sense, it could be interpreted in its literal sense – the act of travelling and moving away, and the doubts associated with that – or in a more metaphorical sense, encompassing the directionless nature of life itself.
Such rich and eclectic songwriting is layered upon a Tame Impala-esque arrangement, featuring fuzzy guitars and spacious vocals. There’s also a distinct retro flair in it, making for a wonderful record overall. Speaking about the accompanying music video, Dino Flange explains: “Retro futuristic vibes for the ‘Andare Vi’a video, the contrast between the city and nature, the distortion of a distant and magical life.”
